Seeing Through Each Other’s Eyes: A Photovoice Workshop

Photography
Storytelling
Dialogue.

What is it?

People from different faiths and cultures often live side by side without truly understanding one another. Which is impressive, honestly. Humans invented both religion and small talk, yet still avoid meaningful conversations at grocery stores.

The Interfaith Photovoice Workshop aims to change that through photography, storytelling, and dialogue.

Using a method called Photovoice, participants take photos that reflect meaningful parts of their lives—such as identity, spirituality, gratitude, resilience, or belonging—and share the stories behind those images in guided group discussions. No photography experience is required. Just a phone camera, curiosity, and the emotional bravery to explain why you photographed a coffee cup at sunset.

Methodology

The workshop is designed as a safe and welcoming space where people from diverse religious, spiritual, and cultural backgrounds can connect through lived experiences rather than debate or doctrine. Across four biweekly sessions, participants will explore themes like forgiveness, respect, and overcoming challenges while learning simple storytelling and visual reflection techniques.

Each session includes photo sharing, reflective dialogue, and collaborative discussion. Participants present selected images, explain the stories behind them, and engage in thoughtful conversations with the group. The workshop may conclude with a collaborative online photo exhibition showcasing participants’ work and shared narratives.

At its core, the project is about building empathy and trust across differences. In a world increasingly shaped by misunderstanding and division, creative dialogue offers something rare: the chance to genuinely see life through someone else’s eyes. Which, compared to yelling online in all caps, feels like a solid improvement for civilization
